BIrds Eye View Film Festival :Fashion Loves Film - Arab Fashion Past & Present

Birds Eye View Film Festival returns this year with a programme focusing solely on films by Arab female filmmakers. My Fashion Loves Film strand will feature a documentary called 'DoBuy : The Fabric of Faith', plus three shorts from Niqabitch, Fatima Al Qadiri and Sophia Al-Maria and Waheeda Malullah.

Tonight is the launch of "Dressing the Screen : The Rise of Fashion Film", an exhibition I have curated for the British Council in collaboration with Modern Media. "Dressing the Screen" is an extensive exhibition of UK moving image and fashion experiments dating back to the 1930's.
The exhibition will also feature a Chinese section curated by Shaway Yeh, the editorial director of the Modern Media publishing group.

'Britain Is Making It' Friday Late Event
On the 27th April the V&A will host ' Britain is Making it'.
A night of making, doing and a lively programme of talks and workshops, participate in some quintessentially British approaches to innovation, irreverence and inspiration from far and wide.
I will be screening 'Máthair' in the V&A Sculpture Hall, as well as collaborating with video artist Weirdcore to create a site specific video installation in the Hintz Galleries and have curated a screening of UK Fashion Film that will be playing throughout the night in the main entrance hall.

I was interviewed for an article that appears in the May issue of Dazed & Confused. I was asked for my thoughts on the impending Olympics and what effect it will have on the creative communities based in London's East End.

I'm just back from a hectic week in Ljubljana with the British Council and Accessories Designer and Art Director Fred Butler. We were there for Slovenia Fashion Week to give talks on moving image and fashion. I also hosted a two day filmmaking workshop with fashion design and filmmaking students. The work by the students will be screened onwww.Elle.si in the coming weeks.

Last week I went to Lagos with David Saunders of Design Label David David who was taking part in Arise Fashion Week. Whilst there we both gave a talk on Fashion Film as part of the British Council's ongoing Fashion Film initiative. I also shot a short film consisting of interviews with Lagosian women on International Women's Day.

I have recently begun working closely with The British Council after being asked to curate a 'Best of UK Fashion Film' screening and a series of talks in Sarajevo in Bosnia & Herzogovina. Whilst there I also lead filmmaking workshops with local creatives and designers.
I invited filmmaker Elisha Smith - Leverock and Fashion Print Designer David Saunders of design label David David to take part in the talks and co-manage the filmmaking workshops.

I have curated this years strand of Fashion Loves Film : Art & Commerce? and will also chair the post-screening panel discussion. I will be joined on the panel by Julie Verhoeven, Ruth Hogben, Katerina Jebb, Jaime Perlman (Art Director of British Vogue and founder of online platform Testmag.co.uk) and Francesca Gavin (Arts & Culture Editor of Dazed and Confused). My music video for Villagers' Ship of Promises' will be screened as part of the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2011 'Music Loves Video' event. The screening will be hosted by journalist and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer with a short introduction by musician Kate Nash at The Institute of Contemporary Arts on March 10th at 8.45pm. Birds Eye View Film Festival 'Fashion Loves Film' screening + panel at Latitude Festival, Suffolk.
There shall be a re-screening of the strand shown at the ICA in March. The screening will be followed by a relaxed panel discussion with Jessica Brinton (Sunday Times Style Magazine), Wendy Bevan, Sarah Piantadosi and I.
The event shall take place in the Latitude Film & Music Arena on Saturday 17th July at 11.15am.
Villagers ' Ship of Promises' video
Above are stills from a new video I have directed for Mercury Award nominees 'Villagers' who have recently signed to Domino Records. The video is for their song 'Ship of Promises'. It shall be up on the site shortly.

This year's 'Fashion Loves Film' event was a big success and a total sell out! After the screening of fourteen recently made videos Jaime Perlman and I co-hosted a panel discussion with three of the filmmakers Wendy Bevan, Sarah Chatfield and Mel Bles.

Next Wednesday will see the third installment of the Birds Eye View Fashion Film Screening & Panel at the Institute of Contemporary Art. There will be a screening of twelve fashion films from the past twelve months followed by a panel co -hosted by Jaime Perlman (Art Director of British Vogue and Director of Testmag.co.uk) and I with a selection of the directors.

Submissions for the Fashion Loves Film strand of the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2010 are now open!
We are looking for FASHION FILMS for our next festival, to take place in March 2010.
The best fashion films will be screened at the annual 'Fashion Loves Film' event at the Institute of Contemporary Art, alongside other major industry submissions. The event will be followed by a panel discussion, which will explore the genre in depth. Past guest panelists have included Penny Martin, Bella Freud, Ruth Hogben and Toyin to name but a few.
As ever, all films must be directed or co-directed by a woman. We are looking for high quality, innovative films, under five minutes long and tailored around a collection or with a strong fashion focus.

British Council / Sarajevo / Fashion Film Project
I have recently begun working closely with The British Council after being asked to curate a 'Best of UK Fashion Film' screening and a series of talks in Sarajevo in Bosnia & Herzogovina. Whilst there I also lead filmmaking workshops with local creatives and designers.
I invited filmmaker Elisha Smith - Leverock and Fashion Print Designer David Saunders of design label David David to take part in the talks and co-manage the filmmaking workshops.

I have been commissioned by Konstantino Menelaou to collaborate with designer Charlie Le Mindu for a gallery based show also taking place alongside ASVOFF at the Centre Pompidou. I am working with CGI artist Clifford Sage on the project.

I will be giving a talk this Saturday at the Dazed Live Festival in East London. As well as presenting my film work and also talking about my involvement with Birds Eye View Film Festival and Levi's she will also be introducing an all female filmmaking collective. The collective will include six female filmmakers from the Royal College of Art including Maya Stocks, Samara Scott, Liron Kholl, Nienke Van Wijk, Catherine Hyland as well as independent filmmaker Lily Smith and Curator Ellen Greig and I. Birds Eye View Film Festival will tonight present it's fourth instalment of its fashion film strand. I have curated this years strand of Fashion Loves Film : Art & Commerce? and will also chair the post-screening panel discussion. I will be joined on the panel by Julie Verhoeven, Ruth Hogben, Katerina Jebb, Jaime Perlman (Art Director of British Vogue and founder of online platform Testmag.co.uk) and Francesca Gavin (Arts & Culture Editor of Dazed and Confused). My music video for Villagers' Ship of Promises' will be screened as part of the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2011 'Music Loves Video' event. The screening will be hosted by journalist and broadcaster Miranda Sawyer with a short introduction by musician Kate Nash at The Institute of Contemporary Arts on March 10th at 8.45pm. I will take part in the post-screening Q&A.

There will be two previews of my new film 'We come, We go' at the Sustainable Catwalk show during this seasons London Fashion Week. The first screening will be held in Friary Court, in St. James’s Palace as part of the fashion show. The second on Sunday during a Estethica S/S11 preview at Somerset House. The film features Audrey Marney and will be launched officially on Yoox.com on Friday.

Birds Eye View Film Festival 'Fashion Loves Film' screening + panel at Latitude Festival, Suffolk.
There shall be a re-screening of the strand shown at the ICA in March. The screening will be followed by a relaxed panel discussion with Jessica Brinton (Sunday Times Style Magazine), Wendy Bevan, Sarah Piantadosi and I.
The event shall take place in the Latitude Film & Music Arena on Saturday 17th July at 11.15am.
Villagers ' Ship of Promises' video
Above are stills from a new video I have directed for Mercury Award nominees 'Villagers' who have recently signed to Domino Records. The video is for their song 'Ship of Promises'. It shall be up on the site shortly.

This still is from a video collaboration with Samara Scott. It will be shown as part of a collaborative showcase between The Royal College of Art and The Guildhall School of Music at The Barbican on June 10th.
The work has been inspired by 'The Surreal House' exhibition opening in The Barbican on the same night.

This year's 'Fashion Loves Film' event was a big success and a total sell out! After the screening of fourteen recently made videos Jaime Perlman and I co-hosted a panel discussion with three of the filmmakers Wendy Bevan, Sarah Chatfield and Mel Bles.

Next Wednesday will see the third installment of the Birds Eye View Fashion Film Screening & Panel at the Institute of Contemporary Art. There will be a screening of twelve fashion films from the past twelve months followed by a panel co -hosted by Jaime Perlman (Art Director of British Vogue and Director of Testmag.co.uk) and I with a selection of the directors.

Submissions for the Fashion Loves Film strand of the Birds Eye View Film Festival 2010 are now open!
We are looking for FASHION FILMS for our next festival, to take place in March 2010.
The best fashion films will be screened at the annual 'Fashion Loves Film' event at the Institute of Contemporary Art, alongside other major industry submissions. The event will be followed by a panel discussion, which will explore the genre in depth. Past guest panelists have included Penny Martin, Bella Freud, Ruth Hogben and Toyin to name but a few.
As ever, all films must be directed or co-directed by a woman. We are looking for high quality, innovative films, under five minutes long and tailored around a collection or with a strong fashion focus.
